The finest games currently available. Forget consoles, the PC is the ultimate gaming machine!

Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising (order, publisher)

Joint Operations takes gamers to Indonesia in the near future where the country is on the verge of disintegration. Gamers can play as either a member of the multinational Joint Operations Force or as a member of a powerful Indonesian separatist group. Teamwork is essential. Terrains range from beautiful coastal islands to misty, dense jungles, all adding to the intense and chaotic atmosphere only experienced in large-scale, multi-player combat over the Internet or LAN.

Thief: Deadly Shadows (order, publisher)

You are Garrett, the master thief. Rarely seen and never caught, Garrett is the best that ever was. Able to sneak past any guard, pick any lock, and break into the most ingeniously secured residences. Garrett steals from the wealthy and gives to himself, making his living in the dark and foreboding City. Here crime and corruption are commonplace, wealthy nobles prey on the poor and each other, and magic and machinery coexist uneasily. World weary and cynical, Garrett wants nothing more than to be left alone to ply his trade. But things never work out that way.

Unreal Tournament 2004 (order, QT movie, publisher)

One of the most eagerly awaited games of 2004 is now out. Plot is minimal. Character development is non-existent. What this game DOES have, by the shedload, is gameplay. Pick up weapons, armour and ammunition and run round a stunning arena hunting bad guys. Great. Update: get online with The Halibuts by visiting our server page.

Eve Online (order)

Currently the most successful online space-trading and combat game around, Eve features smooth graphics, a massive playing area and endless variety. The Halibuts are also active in this game (although to a lesser degree). Get in touch via our forums, here.

Call of Duty (order, screenshot, publisher)

Play through some of the worst of WWII, as seen though the eyes of British, American and Russian soldiers. Great graphics and gameplay underpin this well-executed mission-based FPS.

Half-Life 2 (order, screenshot, publisher)

This is the big one, the game everyone is waiting for. Will it be as good as the first? Will the mods be as cool? Expected release date was 2nd April, 2004 but its now slipped. No idea of actual release date.

FarCry (order, screenshot, publisher)

Set on a paradise island overrun by a crazed artillery-toting militia, this FPS sets you up in the role of heroic rescuer of distressed female (sounds a bit like a day out in Portsmouth). Graphics are fantastic, the gameplay is challending and (if you've got a computer with enough guts) the effects are smooth.

Shadowbane (order, screenshot, publisher)

A persistent game world even bigger and more complex than Planetside, Shadowbane is currently top-dog in the MMORPG world. Build houses, workshops, castles, cities, guilds and hire underlings, craftsmen, soldiers and mercenaries. Big. And deep, very deep.

X2: The Threat (order, screenshot, publisher)

The sequel to X: Beyond the Frontier, X2 is one of the best space-trading simulations of 2004. Boasting spectacular graphics and a huge playing area, X2 looks set to pick up the dusty crown of Elite. Update:First reviews are available: Adrenaline Vault.
